Nitrous Fumes

These fumes are the result of the incomplete combustion of certain high explosives of the nitro-glycerine type. The fumes are poisonous, reddish-brown in colour, and have a sickly smell. The first symptoms are temporary irritation and coughing. After temporary recovery death may occur in a few hours from broncho-pneumonia. The treatment consists in bleeding and the administration of oxygen.
