Davies & Co. Ltd. sunk this
steam coal colliery in 1877, later
to become the Ocean Steam Coal Co.
Ltd. and in 1896 employed 32 men.
However by 1918 it employed 775
men.
Later
it became linked with Maindy colliery,
and in 1945 these two collieries
plus Maindy level employed 378
men. Maindy closed in 1948. Eastern
Colliery closed in 1959.
