Sunk in 1849 and was bought in
1873 by Thomas Jones of Maindy
House.
Also known as Ynyshir House it
was sunk in 1845 by Messrs.
Shepherd and Evans at a depth of
66 yards.
Francis Crawshay acquired this
colliery in 1856 and the coal
was used at his tinplate works
at Treforest.
In 1873 the ownership changed
hands once again the new owner
being Thomas Jones. He had coke
ovens built and supplied them
with coal from the Rhondda No.2
seam. From this period onwards
it was known as "Jones
Navigation" after the owner.
In 1896 there were 44 persons
employed underground and 6 on
the surface.
Later Ynyshir Steam Coal Co.
became the new owners.
In 1908 there were 55 men
employed.
Closed in 1909
