Lady Lewis Colliery, Ynyshir 1906 from My Tribute to the Rhondda
Lady Lewis Colliery, 1906, whilst sinking was still in progress. The Colliery was opened in 1904.

By 1913 it employed 1,228 men and boys and by 1918 the workforce numbered 1,152.

It was taken over by the Powell Duffryn group in the late 1920's.

Coal production ceased in 1926 and it was used for ventilation and pumping purposes. In 1967 the Local Authority obtained 8.5 acres of the site and re-developed it as factory units.
