Lady Lewis Colliery, 1906, whilst
sinking was still in progress. The
Colliery was opened in 1904.
By 1913 it employed 1,228 men
and boys and by 1918
the workforce numbered 1,152.
It
was taken over by the Powell
Duffryn group in the late 1920's.
Coal production ceased in 1926
and it was used for ventilation
and pumping purposes. In 1967 the
Local Authority obtained 8.5 acres
of the site and re-developed it as
factory units.
