First opened
in 1864. In 1869 the colliery was
bought by Cardiff ship-owners John
& Richard Cory who bought Gelli and
Tynybedw pits shortly afterwards.
Their intention was to establish a
global network of coal depots & agencies
fuelling the world's shipping. .
