Miner and Family Statue, Llwynypia, 2003

This statue, by Robert Thomas Studios, Llantwit Major, was commissioned by the Rhondda Civic Society. It is on the site of the 'Scotch' Colliery, close the the Power House - the centre of the Tonypandy Riots of 1910-11, and stands some 8 Feet (2.43 metres) high and was unveiled by the Rt. Hon George Thomas, Viscount Tonypandy, on 14th October 1993.

A time capsule was buried in the plinth of the statue.

It depicts a strong miner together with his wife, a typical 'Mam', who is nursing their child 'Welsh Fashion'.
